Committee Member Open Call

April 20th, 2021 - May 9th, 2021

EMBASSY is looking for a new committee member!!! Application deadline May 9th. Please email applications or any questions you may have to info@embassygallery.org.

APPLY

To apply, please put together a short written expression of interest (maximum: 400 words) or a short video or audio recording (maximum: 3 minutes). This should outline why you would like to become part of EMBASSY gallery, and what you would bring to the committee.

We are keen to hear from people who are personable, enthusiastic, and have a keen interest in contemporary art. Priority will be given to individuals based in Edinburgh and the surrounding area. We apologise in advance, but unfortunately we are unable to take on new committee members who are presently in undergraduate education. Previous experience and/or formal education is not required.

ABOUT

EMBASSY gallery is an artist-led space in central Edinburgh that delivers an annual programme of exhibitions and events. EMBASSY is made up of a non-hierarchical committee of volunteers who contribute to and shape the organisation, generally for a period of around two years. The committee are also trustees of the organisation, which is a OSCR-registered charity and Company Limited by Guarantee.

The role requires taking responsibility for all aspects of running and maintaining our gallery, devising and delivering our annual programmes, installing exhibitions, hosting events, hosting workshops, and managing our funding and finances. We often work collaboratively to support each other, though each committee member will also have the opportunity to take the lead on project/s and pursue their own interests.

EMBASSY committee members receive a small weekly stipend and have access to a training budget in areas that are conducive to your practice and/or interests. The office can be used by committee members at any time and the space can be used by committee members when it is empty. There is equipment available for committee use when not in use for EMBASSY’s program as well as a full Adobe creative cloud suite. This is also an excellent opportunity to forge connections with other Artist run spaces and to connect with the Scottish creative network.

We would like to emphasise that this is currently a voluntary position that requires a commitment of around 10 – 14 hours per week, and involves working with other committee members, artists, organisations and the public. The gallery is currently undergoing constitutional changes to alter the unpaid position of committee members. Due to current Covid-19 restrictions, most of our meetings, interviews, and some aspects of our programme will be conducted online when possible.
