August 5th, 2019 - September 9th, 2019
We are very excited to present EMBASSY’s autumn residency open call
21st October – 18th November 2019.
In Tandem is a 4 week residency for two artists. EMBASSY, in conjunction with Basic Mountain, have created a residency for artists who are in the early years of their careers and who would benefit from a period of time to test and develop ideas, have collaborative encounters, reflective conversations and time to research.
This residency will tailor itself to the residents and facilitate mentors who could include, but are not limited to, artists, writers, researchers, academics, technicians and specialists in other fields. Particular attention will be given to artists who endeavour to support others through their practice – we are open to hearing how artists would identify this within their processes.
With closed door gatherings and encounters, time will be split between EMBASSY and Basic Mountain, as both spaces provide different possibilities. There will be access to EMBASSY’s tools, AV equipment, archive and committee support and knowledge. Residents will have access to Basic Mountain for both public facing events and occasions where the make-up of the space is more appropriate than EMBASSY’s gallery space.
There is a requirement to make one public event or outcome at EMBASSY or Basic Mountain. This could be an exhibition of your work, or part of your development and can take whichever form you choose. eg. event, workshop, open studio, digital, performance or print publishing.
We hope that both residents will benefit from the social aspect of sharing space and working alongside another artist, as well as the support of the EMBASSY committee. We encourage autonomy in how the residency is interpreted by each artist.
To be eligible for this residency opportunity, artists need to be based in or around Edinburgh and the Lothian area. Transport costs from surrounding areas can be covered by the gallery.
Where place of residence is not specified, or is undisclosed – the applicant’s submission will not be considered.
Support: £1,500 per artist
Travel fund available upon request.
EMBASSY will document the residency throughout, a record will be made public on our website and other online platforms. The form this takes will be decided by the artists in conjunction with EMBASSY.
Decisions will be made by a panel made up of EMBASSY committee members and Naomi Garriock of Basic Mountain.
Residency period is 1 month, 21st October – 18th November 2019.
Deadline: 9th Sept
