Board Members – Open Call

EMBASSY Gallery is recruiting a Board of Trustees

EMBASSY Gallery is looking for board members. As the gallery transitions to a new structure, EMBASSY is looking for committed individuals to be part of its first ever Board of Trustees.

The committee at EMBASSY Gallery has been voluntary since its birth in 2004. Over the past few years we have recognised the issues with this structure as it leads to over stretched capacities, difficulty balancing employment, and inaccessibility (with the role far easier to take up by those who are more secure financially and/or do not have any other unpaid responsibilities e.g. care responsibilities). We are nearing the end of the process of rewriting our constitution and objectives to reflect these changes.

We are seeking committed individuals who are affiliated with the aims and objectives of EMBASSY Gallery to support emerging artists in their career, and to provide an enriching and dynamic public arts program by the establishment and maintenance of an arts organisation known as Embassy Gallery.

The role of each board member would be to work with the committee to assist with the strategic direction of the gallery, the transition towards this new structure of working, provide feedback on committee and employee performance, and to provide guidance on administrative and financial matters. Each board member doesn’t have to encompass all of these aspects, rather EMBASSY are looking for individuals with a range of skills. These could be: visual arts, financial, fundraising, organising, curation, promotion, teaching, and any other skills that would apply to EMBASSY Gallery. There is no need to have previous experience being part of a board, however an interest in the arts and with EMBASSY’s aims and objectives is crucial.

Trustees of the Board would be expected to meet quarterly (four times a year). This role is voluntary and unpaid. EMBASSY welcomes all expressions of interest regardless of age, gender, race, sexual orientation, religious belief, class, parental status, or disability. If you have any access requirements then board meetings will always be arranged to accommodate that.

Please send short expressions of interest to embassygalleryedinburgh@gmail.com (maximum 350 words) detailing your experience and reasons why you would be interested in the role by August 28th.
