Love Letters. Micro-writing Commission Open Call

OPEN CALL. Love Letters. Micro-writing Commission.

Dear Artists, Writers, Art workers, Lovers, and Bathroom Poets

You don’t realise how beautiful you are, how needed you are, we have missed you dearly.  A word swells with affection, another with desire. Received, read, interpreted. Webbing threads of meaning, glinting moments of connection.

We are writing to invite you to submit work for a micro-writing commission, Love Letters, as part of our valentines day program. This is a response to the themes of love, care, or consent in up to 800 words. We are accepting three commissions which will be mailed out to subscribers over our Valentines day program in February. This is a paid opportunity and the writers’ fee will be £270.

As we begin 2022, turning the page into a new chapter in history we want to celebrate and explore love, affection, and joy. What it means in the present through a writing structure of the past.

To Apply:

Please submit a short summary of what you intend to write – this can be an excerpt or a description of the piece between 250 and 400 words in length along with a previous example of writing of up to 800 words.

OR

Submit the full text you intend to submit with no previous examples.

Please also submit your name, confirm the text has not been published elsewhere, and confirm your years of experience as a practicing writer. Less experience will not harm your application, however this commission is open only to emerging artists of up to three years of professional writing practice. We do not accept text that has already been in/is in publication. We are unable to accept applications from those in full time education.

Please save these as a single PDF and send to info@embassygallery.org with your name and the phrase ‘Love Letters’ in the subject line.

Deadline for applications: December 15th.

Applicants will be notified of the decision by December 23rd.

Yours sincerely,

EMBASSY Gallery

P.S.  We especially encourage writings from queers, femmes, trans, and non-binary folx.
