Open Call: Biscuit Tin 2024
Open Call: Biscuit Tin 2024 EMBASSY Gallery’s Third edition of their Artist Moving Image Festival.
Returning for the third year, EMBASSY is open for submissions of artists moving image and video work, up to 20 minutes.
Deadline: Friday the 15th of November 2024, Midnight.
This open call is for artists moving image work, (or work in any video format) up to 20 minutes, which has not previously been screened in a physical space. Submissions are open to works which have only been shown online previously. Applicants can be based anywhere! Artists will be paid a screening fee of £80.
While “success” most often coincides with visibility and exposure, “failure”, in the broad sense of the word, is harder to tally, externally as well as internally. By screening work that has previously not found a place to be exhibited, EMBASSY wishes to explore the more hidden areas of artists’ practises.
Through returning and revisiting past work, there is space for criticism and growth, but also potential re-connections with past work and ideas. We want to invite you to share those journeys which resulted in unfinished projects, and offer a chance to get together over the non-successes. The ventures down diverting paths which never went where you wanted to go, which for whatever reason never made it out its folder in a folder on your desktop. The project left behind on the old harddrive, which was made for the show that got cancelled. The work which was never quite able to fit the predetermined categories and was therefore left out all together.
There are no parameters on the date when the submitted work was completed and we encourage submissions of past work as well as new. This is a paid opportunity to screen your work in front of an audience with a friendly and supportive committee. The EMBASSY Gallery committee will review all works submitted, and make their selections based on how well the works fit the theme of the festival, and how different films may work together, in order to curate a varied and dynamic programme. Unfortunately we won’t be able to screen all the submitted work, and as such have made the application process as low labour as possible.
Examples of what to submit could be films, video art, performance documentations, animations, video essays, sound/music pieces over images, or works in progress of any of the above.
The screenings will be held at EMBASSY Gallery in Edinburgh over the 6th, 7th and 8th of December 2024. The works will also be shown online over the film festival’s dates. All works will be Captioned by EMBASSY, before their public presentation. Encouraging artists to implement accessibility measures into their practice, all artists will receive the captioned file of their moving image work sent back to them via WeTransfer after the festival.
