🐌Move Slow and Fix Things: a series of archival reprogramming🐌

Move Slow and Fix Things: a series of archival reprogramming, events and texts taking place over a long (undefined) time – we’re not joking this might go on for a while. Inspired by the success of our recent archival show, The Rich Compost of Before, we recognise the importance of revisiting our roots and reconnecting with our DIY legacy as the gallery begins to re-shape and respond to recent constitutional changes.

What changes?! –  We (on the operational committee) now get paid* (yay!) and have established an advisory board of trustees (yay!).

*12hrs a week at £13.50hr

We are thinking about slower programming, are reading the @Bare Minimum Manifesto (and working on our own!), taking the time to restructure, and archive as we go. We want to promote sustainable futures within artist-run spaces, resisting burnout and emphasizing access. We recognise this is a process which requires continuous reflection and checking in with each other: so many of us working in the arts have become so used to being overworked, underpaid, and constantly on the edge of burnout. It’s a different kind of work trying to unpick this without feeling guilty for not doing ‘more’. As we begin to move more slowly, fixing broken structures along the way, we want to pay artists more, plan in advance, think about our place in the wider community and stop using plastic cups!

MS+FT will encompass the revival of old embassy events alongside new commissions responding to changes happening both within EMBASSY and beyond. We don’t know how long it will take us and we are not going to put our own health second to delivering a packed program! We can’t wait to see you at our first event! – more details coming soon!
