Workshop and communal meal

Zine workshop and communal meal

Using duplicates from the EMBASSY archive we invite you to join us at EMBASSY Gallery for a zine making workshop and communal meal. In cutting up and pasting together past flyers, catalogs, posters, and mouse mats into reimagined compositions, we try to de-tange the questions of the role of the artist-led archive; what do we keep? What do we want to leave behind?

We will be warming up the evening at 6pm with making pronoun badges and a short introduction to EMBASSY Gallery and the Archival exhibition ‘The Rich Compost of Before’.

This will be followed by an introduction to zine making and ‘found poetry’, and a demonstration of different zine folding techniques. Working from the theme of ‘Imagining anew’, there will then be an hour to create your own collages, zines, and poems using duplicate materials from the archive.

How can we use these materials from the past to create something new ? – What does it mean to take other people’s words or images and re-purpose them in a different context? – What do we owe to each other when working with each other’s ideas/words/images? – When do words stop being one persons and start being anothers?

The workshop will be followed by a communal meal in the gallery at 7.30pm and an evening opportunity to view The Rich Compost of Before. The food for the evening will be delivered from Knights Kitchen Leith.

When ordering your ticket, please note which choice of main you would like, the Fragrant mixed lentil dahl: https://www.neighbourfood.co.uk/products/knights-kitchen-fragrant-mixed-lentil-dahl/15981 or the Chickpea and spinach coconut curry: https://www.neighbourfood.co.uk/products/knights-kitchen-chickpea–spinach-coconut-curry/15979

Both mains come with rice and Chapati, and we will have a side salad to go alongside as well!

The meal will be vegan and a selection of soft drinks and coffee/tea will be available.

BYOB is welcome.

All materials will be provided for the workshop.

Please let us know if you have any dietary/allergy requirements when booking your ticket, and we will forward this to the restaurant when placing the food order and will do our best to accommodate this.

Make sure to cancel your ticket as soon as possible if you cannot attend, to allow the space to be filled and avoid food waste! X
